CAIRO - A donkey in Egypt has been jailed for stealing corn on the cob.
Egyptian media is reporting that an agricultural research site in the Nile Delta owned the paddock that the corn was stolen from.
AFP says donkey and its owner were apprehended at a police checkpoint set up after complaints from the research institutes's director about missing crops.
A local judge sentenced the donkey to 24 hours in prison, and the owner was fined 50 Egyptian pounds.
