A newlywed who stabbed her intoxicated husband while he was sleeping will avoid jail, the Mercury newspaper in Australia has reported.
Sabrina Thorpe, 27, waited until her husband of three months fell asleep before stabbing him in the leg after a night of drinking, the Supreme Court in Hobart heard.
He was so drunk that he did not wake up, so Thorpe cleaned the knife and returned it to the kitchen drawer.
The next morning she told her husband he must have fallen down and hurt himself while he was drunk.
It was not until he accused two of his friends of stabbing him that Thorpe told him the truth.
Thorpe said her husband had been abusive towards her in the past and she just "snapped" after they fought that night.
Before going to the police to confess, she told him she would never do anything like that again.
The court heard that the wound required stitches and the husband still suffered numbness in his toe.
