Donald stay out: Hundreds of thousands sign British petition

Hundreds of thousands of people have signed a petition on a British Government website calling for US President Donald Trump to be barred from visiting Britain.

Titled "Prevent Donald Trump from making a State Visit to the United Kingdom," the petition had drawn more than 850,000 signatures.

Petitions that garner more than 100,000 signatures must be considered for debate in Parliament.

"Donald Trump's well documented misogyny and vulgarity disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales," the petition says.

British Prime Minister Theresa May met Trump in Washington on Saturday, in the first visit by a foreign leader.

Trump accepted an invitation she conveyed from the Queen for a state visit to Britain later this year.

The US President has been severely criticised in Britain for his ban on Syrian refugees and crackdown on travellers from seven Muslim-majority countries.

Opposition Leader Jeremy Corbyn said on Twitter that May "would be failing the British people if she does not postpone the state visit & condemn Trump's actions in the clearest terms".

Corbyn tweeted earlier that Trump "should not be welcomed to Britain while he abuses our shared values with shameful #MuslimBan & attacks on refugees & women".

May earlier ordered her foreign and home ministers to speak to their US counterparts about Trump's travel ban, and its possible effect on British nationals.
