The hospital white coat may be consigned to history after British doctors yesterday backed a move to update their uniform to combat the threat from superbugs.
Operating theatre scrubs which can be laundered daily - familiar to patients from TV dramas such as ER - should become standard issue for all medical staff, the British Medical Association's conference said. Last year, only one in eight doctors said he or she still wore a white coat.
