A fossil discovery suggests Australia could be the missing link in the evolution of crocodiles.
The discovery, in western Queensland, showed modern crocodilians did not originate in the northern hemisphere, as widely believed, Dr Steve Salisbury, from the University of Queensland, said.
A team of palaeontologists painstakingly uncovered a complete skull, estimated to be between 95 million and 98 million years old, from a rock in a dried-up creek-bed near the town of Isisford.
