China agreed last night to direct two-way charter flights with arch-rival Taiwan during the Lunar New Year holiday next month, the first such links in more than 50 years.
Taiwan opposition legislators said the move put the ball in the court of the ruling pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party, whose approval will be necessary for flights to take place for the start of the Chinese new year festival on February 9.
