KEY POINTS:
SYDNEY - The first glimpse of Diana's wedding dress was a magical moment for all who watched her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles.
Sydneysiders will soon be able to take a close-up view of the extravagant gown when it is shown as part of an exhibition at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum.
The dress, covered in more than 10,000 tiny mother-of-pearl sequins and complete with an 8m train, is the centrepiece of the museum's exhibition, Diana: A Celebration.
The ivory silk and taffeta gown was designed under great secrecy by young British designers Elizabeth and David Emanuel, and its unveiling was highly awaited around the world.
The fairytale gown is based on Victorian era fashion, with vintage lace detailing, puffed sleeves and delicate hand embroidery.
It is among more than 150 items of Diana memorabilia making up the exhibition, which includes photographs and film footage.
The exhibition is open to the public from September 29 until next May.
