KEY POINTS:
The 31 pilgrims who remain in Australia unlawfully following World Youth Day in July have been advised by the Department of Immigration to contact authorities or face deportation.
The department said 974 Catholic pilgrims remain in Australia, with 740 holding visas which remain valid.
A further 203 have applied for extensions.
