COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) Denmark's foreign minister says he is resigning after doctors uncovered a blood clot in his heart.
Villy Soevndal has been on sick leave since a brief hospitalization in October. The 61-year-old politician says doctors have now told him he is unfit to continue his political career.
Soevndal is the former leader of the Socialist People's Party, a junior partner in the government coalition. He is largely credited for getting the leftist group in the government in 2011 the first time that had happened since the party was established in 1959.
Wednesday's announcement came a day after Denmark's justice minister resigned after coming under fire for lying to Parliament.
Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt says she would present new government members on Thursday.
