A United States congressional panel investigating the firing of eight federal prosecutors authorised subpoenas yesterday for emails - including some by President George W. Bush's political adviser Karl Rove - that the White House says may be missing.
The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, Democrat Patrick Leahy, said: "I don't believe that. It's not a question of emails being lost, it's emails they don't want to retrieve."
