A death row inmate who slipped out of a Texas jail wearing street clothes has been captured in Shreveport, Louisiana, the United States Marshals Service says.
Charles Victor Thompson, 35, was convicted in 1999 for the shooting deaths a year earlier of his former girlfriend and her new boyfriend. On Friday, he was in the Harris County Jail awaiting transfer to a state prison when he was left alone after a meeting with a lawyer.
He removed his handcuffs, changed out of his prison jumpsuit into civilian clothes and got out of the prisoner's booth in the visiting room.
Using a falsified identity badge, he got past at least four jail employees.
