COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) Denmark's justice minister says he will resign after coming under fire for lying to parliament about why a planned visit by lawmakers to an infamous neighborhood in Copenhagen was postponed.
Morten Boedskov said Tuesday he must step down because a majority in the legislature no longer trusts him.
The minister originally said the trip in February of last year was postponed because the Copenhagen police chief could not accompany lawmakers, but later admitted it was due to risks they might be pelted with stones and firecrackers.
The Christiania neighborhood is considered a hippie enclave with an illegal, but tolerated, drug trade.
The minister said Tuesday he would ask Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt to accept his resignation once she returns from South Africa, where she is attending Nelson Mandela's funeral.
