KEY POINTS:
Queensland police have yet to charge a man who they say left his two young children dead or dying in the wreckage when he fled after crashing the family car on the Gold Coast.
A two-year-old boy died in the crash on Thursday night and his seven-month-old brother died in hospital on Friday when his life support was turned off.
Police say the children's father ran from the scene, leaving the children and his injured partner in the wreckage of the car.
He turned up at the Gold Coast hospital about an hour later.
It is alleged drugs and alcohol were found in the car.
The Brisbane Courier-Mail newspaper has named the father as 25 year old Alan Ross.
The paper said that when Ross fled from the shattered car on Thursday night, he left his injured partner Jaide Zeaiter screaming and the lifeless body of his two-year-old son Khye Ross trapped inside.
Baby Zac was critically injured.
"It was the most shocking thing I've ever seen in my life," one woman told the Courier-Mail.
"The mother was yelling 'my children, my children' but there was just nothing we could do.
"The roof of the car was totally crushed."
