PRAGUE (AP) Czech officials say President Milos Zeman needs to use a wheelchair after he injured his right knee, limiting his duties for up to six weeks.
The 69-year-old Zeman spent a night at a Prague hospital after falling at his residence on the way to the bathroom Wednesday, according to Health Minister Martin Holcat. The president, who damaged cartilage in the knee but won't need surgery, was discharged Thursday.
Zeman will be recovering at the presidential castle in Lany, just outside Prague. His condition has forced him to cancel planned trips for the next few weeks.
Zeman, a chain smoker with a well-documented soft spot for alcohol, was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Holcat said alcohol didn't play a role in Zeman's injury.
