HAVANA (AP) Cubans are trying yellow ribbons to homes, trees and lampposts in a campaign to press for the return of several agents imprisoned in the United States.
The goal is to raise awareness in the United States by co-opting a symbol that has important cultural significance for many Americans.
Thousands of ribbons can be seen around the Cuban capital, from government buildings to private homes and small businesses. Many people are wearing yellow, and young schoolgirls have ribbons in their hair.
Cuba's association of artists and intellectuals held a march from its headquarters to the U.S. diplomatic mission in Havana on Thursday.
The campaign was announced last week by Rene Gonzalez, who earlier this year became the first of the so-called Cuban Five agents to return to the island.
