SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) Prison authorities in the Dominican Republic have released the former wife of a convicted drug dealer once known as the Pablo Escobar of the Caribbean.
A judge placed 36-year-old Leavy Nin Batista on conditional release Wednesday after she served more than two years of a five-year sentence. Batista acknowledged her guilt in a 2011 plea deal with prosecutors after being charged with money laundering.
Her testimony helped prosecutors convict five members of Dominican high society on similar charges.
Batista was once married to Jose Figueroa Agosto, who was captured in Puerto Rico in 2010 after evading authorities for a decade. He is jailed in the U.S. on charges of shipping Colombian cocaine to the U.S. mainland.
