KEY POINTS:
Voters oppose President Hugo Chavez's proposed changes to the constitution by a wide margin, according to a new poll released that shows the Venezuelan leader facing his toughest vote in years.
The survey, published in the Venezuelan newspaper El Universal, found about 49 per cent of likely voters oppose Chavez's reforms, well ahead of the 39 per cent who favour the changes. The poll was conducted by Datanalisis, which has predicted Chavez's victories in past elections.
Voters will decide on December 2 whether to approve changes that would let Chavez run for re-election indefinitely, extend presidential terms from six to seven years, and create new types of property to be managed by co-operatives and communities, among others.
