SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) The U.S. Coast Guard says it has rescued 49 Haitian migrants and two Dominicans from a sinking boat off Puerto Rico's northwest coast.
Spokesman Ricardo Castrodad said Wednesday that crews are still looking for possible missing survivors.
He said the Coast Guard spotted the overloaded, 20-foot (6-meter) boat late Tuesday as migrants dumped buckets of water overboard to try and keep it afloat.
The boat was located near Mona Island, which lies in a treacherous passage between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
