A man has died as Venice's bitter clam wars escalated to gang fighting and bloodshed.
Claudio Carisi, 41, was stabbed during a battle between rival farmer gangs over the Lombard Canal in Chioggia, near Venice.
The fight was believed to have started after the presidents of their respective co-operatives, Acquaviva and Imperiale, squared off.
