Former French President Jacques Chirac, 74, was interrogated for four hours yesterday in what is likely to be the first of many encounters with judges investigating alleged illegal fundraising at the Paris Town Hall while Chirac was mayor from 1977-1995.
No other former president in the nearly 50-year history of the Fifth Republic has been questioned by a judge investigating criminal activities.
