Chinese officials may have covered up pig disease

Local authorities may have covered up outbreaks of a disease that has killed tens of thousands of pigs in China, according to the nation's chief vet, who said the highly infectious blue-ear pig disease had killed 68,000 pigs and led to another 175,000 being slaughtered.

But press reports citing a dramatic rise in the price of pork in China this year claim the number is likely to be much higher.
