A 9-year-old girl who gave birth to a baby boy last month has become one of the world's youngest mothers.
The baby was delivered by caesarean section on 27 January at a hospital in Changchun, in north-east China, according to the Telegraph.
The girl, who was from the city of Songyuan, was eight and a half months pregnant.
Chinese newspaper the City Evening News reported that both mother and child were well, but her parents had lodged a complaint with police.
According to the Daily Mail, police were trying to identify the baby's father.
In China, sex with a child younger than 14 is classed as statutory rape.
The youngest documented girl to have given birth was a Peruvian, Lina Medina, who gave birth to a boy by caesarean section in 1939 at the age of five.
