KEY POINTS:
A massive algae bloom threatening the Olympic Games sailing venue at the Chinese coastal resort of Qingdao has now almost been cleared.
"The sailing event, which will be held in more than 20 days, will not be threatened by the algae," reported the official Xinhua news agency.
A massive deployment of ships and troops has scooped the green muck off beaches and out of the sea.
More than 1400 boats and 10,000 troops and volunteers were dispatched to help clean-up efforts and a million tonnes of algae had been cleared.
Two barriers are keeping algae from the sailing venues and ships will also monitor the area.
