China spewed out more carbon dioxide than the United States for the first time last year, making it the world's biggest producer of the gas blamed for global warming.
Figures from the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency show China produced 6.2 billion tonnes of CO2 and the US 5.8 billion tonnes.
