SYDNEY - US Vice-President Dick Cheney will end his three-day visit to Australia today, when Air Force 2 departs Sydney this morning.
Mr Cheney, who arrived on Thursday night, spent yesterday with Prime Minister John Howard discussing a range of issues including the trial of Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks and the war in Iraq.
The pair also talked on trade issues, Iran, China and Indonesia.
The two men then spent the afternoon on a leisurely cruise around Sydney Harbour with Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, Treasurer Peter Costello, Defence Minister Brendan Nelson and US Ambassador Robert McCallum.
Mr Cheney's brief visit also included discussions with Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd and a trip to Victoria Barracks to speak with Dr Nelson and to personally thank Australian troops for their efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
However, his visit has not been without incident, with protesters using Mr Cheney's visit to push their anti-war message and significant traffic delays for Sydneysiders.
With a huge security operation in place, Mr Cheney's motorcade caused numerous road closures, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, causing traffic chaos.
