KHALIDIYAH, Iraq - A car bomb ripped through a police station in western Iraq on Sunday, killing at least 10 people and wounding dozens, witnesses and hospital sources said.
Black smoke billowed over the police station in the restive village of Khalidiyah, some 60 km (35 miles) west of Baghdad as ambulances rushed to the scene and evacuated casualties to the town of Ramadi.
Hospital sources at Ramadi, 110km west of the capital, said at least 10 people had been killed and many more wounded in the blast.
The US military in Baghdad confirmed the car bomb attack, saying the blast took place at 8:40am (1840 NZT).
"There was no coalition casualties," a spokesman said. He did not report any Iraqi casualties.
The bomb was the latest in a string of attacks on Iraqi police and others seen as cooperating with the US-led occupation. Scores of Iraqis have been killed.
US-led forces in Iraq have also come under daily attack since the end of the war that toppled Saddam Hussein in April.
