GAZA - Former Palestinian university head Mohammad Shbair today agreed to replace Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas in a bid to ease a Western aid blockade, a Palestinian official said.
Shbair had been among a handful of candidates proposed by the governing Islamic group Hamas. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, a moderate from the rival Fatah movement, has still to endorse the nomination.
