WINDSOR, Ontario (AP) The mayor of Windsor, Ontario, says the city is looking to buy the U.S. portion of the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel in the wake of the Detroit's bankruptcy filing.
Eddie Francis said Friday that his office has contacted Detroit's emergency manager to express interest in purchasing the cross-border tunnel that runs beneath the Detroit River.
Currently that portion is owned by the City of Detroit but it's leased to a private corporation for the next seven years.
Detroit filed for bankruptcy earlier this week, becoming the largest U.S. city in history to do so.
Francis says he doesn't believe Detroit's bankruptcy will impact other relationships between the two communities.
