Burqa ban rejected

The Council of Europe, the Continent's human rights watchdog, said it opposed a ban on full face veils, under consideration by France, Belgium and Spain, but urged Muslims to reject customs that deny women equal rights.

Council members qualified that by saying burqas could be banned for public security or professional reasons.
