Bumblebee under threat

A University of Illinois study confirmed four previously abundant species of bumblebee, pollinators critical for agriculture, may disappear in the United States and are affected worldwide.

Numbers are down 96 per cent and their range has shrunk 87 per cent. As with honey-bees, research blames disease but also inbreeding due to habitat loss.
