KEY POINTS:
The discovery in a hot cross bun of a metal object, believed to be a bullet, has prompted the removal of Coles brand buns from supermarket shelves across Queensland.
A 47-year-old woman bought six hot cross buns from the Coles outlet in the Pines Shopping Centre at Elanora on the Gold Coast on Monday, but did not discover the object until she broke one of the buns in half the next day.
Police are conducting a forensic examination of the object.
"We're trying to ascertain whether or not the projectile was inserted into the bun prior to it being baked or after," Police Superintendent Jim Keogh told ABC Radio.
"It's important to note though that at this time we haven't had any demands, any threats from any person who may have put the object into the product."
A Coles spokesman said the company had removed the affected product line from all Coles supermarkets across the state as a precaution.
The spokesman said the company was assisting police with their investigation.
