Brutal attack on mother

A Sydney mother was punched in the face, cut with a screwdriver and nearly suffocated by an awaiting intruder just after she put her two young children down for a nap.

The male intruder tied her hands and tried to put a bag over her head before suddenly fleeing the house.

The woman is in a serious but stable condition.

Her daughters aged 1 and 3 were unharmed during the attack.
