The British Navy has intercepted a ship with a Ukrainian crew smuggling 1100 tonnes of fuel out of Iraq and is towing it back to the southern Iraqi port of Umm Qasr.
The Panamanian-registered Navstar, which had been involved in smuggling when Iraq was under UN sanctions, was under surveillance for nine days before a team of Royal Marines boarded it, a Navy spokesman said.
