GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) A 14-year-old boy in the South American country of Guyana has been killed by a stray bullet while fishing in an area that authorities say is home to a group of suspected gang members.
Residents of the sugar-producing community of Wales are demanding that police take action against those responsible for Ryan Persaud's death late Monday, saying they often hear weapons being fired in the area.
The boy's father, Vishnu Persaud, told reporters that their home was hit by a bullet late last month. He said police did not investigate the incident at the time.
Deputy Police Chief Seelall Persaud told The Associated Press Tuesday that officers are seeking the cooperation of residents to help solve the case.
