WARSAW, Poland (AP) A new book about Pope John Paul II's mother says she lost a newborn daughter three years before he was born.
"The Pope's Mother" by Catholic writer Milena Kindziuk is out this week in Poland, ahead of the April 27 Vatican ceremony in which John Paul is to be made a saint.
Kindziuk says in her book that she found parish records in Bielsko-Biala that say Olga Maria Wojtyla, the daughter of the pope's parents Emilia and Karol Wojtyla, was born and died July 7, 1916.
The Wojtylas' oldest son, Edmund, a doctor, died in 1932 aged 26 after contracting scarlet fever from a patient.
