KEY POINTS:
An Australian man charged with plotting terrorist attacks had a false New Zealand passport - and authorities here are struggling to understand how he got it.
John Howard Amundsen, a 41-year-old teacher and film-maker, was arrested in May and has been in custody ever since, after police found 53kg of explosives in his Brisbane home.
He allegedly plotted to blow up a car in a shopping centre carpark, and is also accused of sending two threatening emails to police, making counterfeit notes - and possessing the fake passport.
Tony Wallace, spokesperson for the Department of Internal Affairs, did not yet know whether the passport was fake (made or bought illegally by Amundsen) or false (an official document obtained using a false identity).
