WASHINGTON: Federal aviation officials are ordering airlines to check the cockpit window heaters of 1212 Boeing airliners for a loose screw responsible for dozens of incidents involving fire, smoke, exposed streams of electricity or shattered windscreens.
The order affects Boeing 757, 767 and 777 models.
The order will require airlines to check the windows for a loose screw that has been shown to chafe power wires, causing the exposed streams of electricity known as "electrical arcing" and starting fires.
