KEY POINTS:
A Spanish court has ruled that a motorist caught speeding in a car, despite being legally classified as blind, can keep an insurance payout made for an accident in which he lost most of his sight.
Domingo Merino, 57, was stopped after doing 154km/h. Insurance company Mapfre - which had paid him €546,800 ($1 million) after an accident - took him to court for fraud.
The court ruled Merino was entitled to compensation because the accident had left him partially deaf, with no sense of taste, and vision restricted to 10 per cent in one eye.
