COLOMBO - Twenty people burned to death and about 40 were injured when a beer truck and a passenger bus collided and caught fire in southern Sri Lanka, police and the government said today.
"It was a head-on clash in a bend. Both vehicles caught fire," said Jayantha Gamage, deputy inspector general for the Southern Province.
The driver of the container truck was among the 20 killed, and the injured were taken to a local hospital, the government's national security website (www.nationalsecurity.lk) said.
The accident happened early on Tuesday morning some 80km south of the capital Colombo in the Galle area.
