SYDNEY - NSW Police Commissioner Ken Moroney has described a robbery at the home of Sydney bashing victim Lauren Huxley as a "loathsome act".
Among the items stolen were unopened Christmas gifts given to the 19-year-old, who is still recovering in hospital after being bashed, bound and doused with petrol at her Northmead home in November.
Part of the home was destroyed by fire, and the Huxley family had moved to a block of units at Northmead while their daughter fought for her life in Westmead Hospital.
Mr Moroney said the community had been "captivated by Lauren's enormous courage and that of her family" and urged the thieves to come forward.
"Be assured my officers will use every lawful means at their disposal to investigate and identify you," he said.
"On the other hand, you could show as much guts as Lauren and come forward of your own accord."
Property including angel statues given to Lauren in hospital, antique jewellery and power tools were stolen from locked storage units in the downstairs carport.
Thieves broke into five carports in the unit block.
Anyone who wishes to donate items to the Huxley family can leave them at Parramatta Police Station.
