GOLD COAST - A man who allegedly fled after a Gold Coast crash that killed his two young sons had been banned from driving.
Alan Edward Ross, 25, of Benowa, was refused bail and remanded in custody when he appeared in the Southport Magistrate's Court.
The boys' mother, Jaide Zeaiter, who survived the crash, twice muttered "I love you" to her partner as he was led back to the watchhouse in handcuffs.
Police claim Ross ran from a car crash on Thursday night, leaving his two children dying in the wreckage. Ross' 2-year-old son Khye died at the scene of the crash and 7-month-old baby Zac died later of his injuries in a Brisbane hospital.
Ross was charged with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of dangerous driving, and a charge of disqualified driving is yet to be laid.
Police revealed that Ross had been fined A$1000 ($1128) and banned from driving for seven months in January this year on a drink-driving offence.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Christine Philip told the court there was no excuse for Ross' actions.
