Drug smuggling accused Antony de Malmanche has been allowed to speak at his trial in Bali.
The Whanganui man, 52, is accused of smuggling methamphetamine into Indonesia.
He told the court he went to Bali where he believed he would meet his internet girlfriend, "Jesse", TV3 reported.
He said he was given a bag in Guangzhou by Jesse's personal assistant and told to bring it to her in Bali.
De Malmanche was arrested at Bali's international airport in December carrying 1.7kg of methamphetamine. If convicted he could face the death penalty.
