Former Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis will deny sex crimes spanning 30 years against nine women and a teenage girl, a court was told yesterday.
Travis, 68, appeared in court for the first time accused of 11 counts of indecent assault and one of sexual assault against nine alleged victims, the youngest aged 15 at the time, when his case finally comes to trial, his solicitor said.
He said Travis' wife and family were supporting him over the allegations that emerged when he was arrested in November last year by officers investigating the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal.
Travis was bailed until September 6 on condition that he remained at his home in Mentmore, Bedfordshire, and did not contact the women who were said to have made the allegations.
After the short appearance, he spoke briefly to reporters outside the courtroom. "There's no such thing as quick words," he said.
