CANBERRA - Australians have been told to exercise caution in East Timor after the government received new information of a possible attack on government buildings.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in an updated travel warning it had new information of a possible attack or bombing against East Timor government buildings in the capital Dili.
"Australians are advised to avoid the vicinity of all government buildings in Dili," it said.
The government maintained its current warning level against travel to East Timor.
The risk of terrorist attack in East Timor remains, particularly in areas frequented by foreigners, DFAT says.
A DFAT spokesman said the government was concerned about the threat and advised Australians in East Timor to take it seriously.
"We are working with East Timorese authorities to respond to the threat," he said.
