CANBERRA - Australian police expect to make more arrests as a global child pornography ring unravels.
Two teachers and a former police officer were among six men arrested as police cracked the pornography ring in weekend raids after a covert 11-month Australia-wide operation.
Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner Mick Keelty today said the investigation was continuing.
"There's an overseas aspect to this operation that's yet to unfold," Mr Keelty told the Nine Network.
The arrests were part of the Virtual Global Taskforce which tracks online child pornography and tries to find the places where it is made.
"It is very widespread," Mr Keelty said.
"We've been working with the FBI and with the UK police for almost a year now on several investigations.
"It is one (investigation) of a number that is culminating over the next couple of weeks.
"It's a message to people who want to use the internet to commit crimes online and who want to use the internet to groom young children that there is a virtual global taskforce out there that is monitoring their activities."
This investigation was led by NSW police.
Eight separate raids by 69 officers over the weekend resulted in six arrests plus the seizure of computers and equipment containing thousands of images of child porn.
Officers posed as children on the internet to infiltrate the network during a police sting operation.
Mr Keelty said some children abused in the paedophile ring were Australian.
"I think those matters will be put before the court, some of them are from here in Australia and some of them are from overseas."
