Australian Navy officials are refusing to speculate on what led to the grounding of a ship involved in border protection operations at Christmas Island.
Navy operations commander Captain Stuart Mayer of Maritime Command said the damage to Anzac Class Frigate HMAS Ballarat was still being assessed and an investigation into the grounding was being conducted.
The ship's hull was intact but the rudder and propeller were damaged.
