The rapid switch to broadband internet connections is continuing in Australia.
A regular report by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission shows that, at the end of the December quarter, there were almost 2.8 million broadband services connected across Australia.
That is an increase of 1.25 million during 2005 - a growth rate of 85 per cent.
However, there was some slowing in the December quarter itself, when total growth was 12 per cent.
More than two million of the connections are ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line), a technology for transmitting digital information on existing phone lines to homes and businesses.
