Australia's Government has proposed a carbon tax on its biggest industrial polluters from July 1, 2012, arguing yesterday that the country cannot afford to lag behind in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The proposal has the support of the Greens Party but faces a battle in the Senate against opposition MPs.
