Australia appoints new defence chief

Head of the Air Force Angus Houston will become the new chief of the Australian Defence Force, Prime Minister John Howard said last night.

Air Marshal Houston will succeed General Sir Peter Cosgrove, whose term as chief of the defence force (CDF) ends on July 4 after a 40-year career and three years in the top job.
