MELBOURNE - A tradesman has pulled a 40mm nail from his eye after a workplace accident on a construction site in Melbourne's west.
The 20-year-old was hammering in the nail when it flew into his eye while working on a house under construction at Truganina on Tuesday.
Advanced life support paramedic Claire Phillips said the man had some blurred vision, but appeared to have escaped serious damage to his eye.
"He was in a bit of pain so we gave him some pain relief through an inhaler, and took him to the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital," she said.
"If someone has something go into their eye like a nail they are probably best to leave it in there to reduce further damage, allowing the object to be removed in hospital."
